Nordic Monsters: A Bestiary of Scandinavian Legends

Layout continues on PF1, 5.5E is in the queue, and... a PRONUNCIATION GUIDE!

Hi all,

Just wanted to give you a quick update on our project!

• Nordic Monsters PF1: The Pathfinder First Edition version of Nordic Monsters is rolling along in layout. I just got the first 20-page galley from the layout artist so we could review formats and layout structure, so that version is continuing apace and if all goes well, we'll have it ready to send out next week! Once we've got print versions approved, we can start sending out print orders for PF1 books!
• Nordic Monsters 5.5E: I completed assembly and development on the D&D 5.5E version of Nordic Monsters and that one is now up and ready in layout to start work as soon as PF1 is done! 
• Printing: I've run the numbers and talked with our partners at Asia Pacific who have done many of our books before with terrific quality, and we are going to do a full offset print run of the 5.5E version, which should arrive at LG central this fall. 
• Nordic Monsters PF2: Next up will be the PF2 version. I have almost all of the monsters in, except for one batch where a freelancer has gone radio silent. I'm reaching out to them and hopefully they are good to go; if not, we'll reassign and get them done.
• Nordic Monsters ToV: This version will be the last of the four in the layout cycle, and we'll keep you up to date when layout starts on it!

And last but not least, one of the stretch goals that I had planned but we didn't reach that funding goal was for a pronunciation guide, like we did with Latin American Monsters. The more I thought about it, though, I decided I was just going to do one for this book anyway! I completed a 1200-word appendix yesterday, including pronunciation guidance for Old Norse as well as for modern Nordic languages. This is not an academic treatise that will have you speaking like a native, but it should hopefully be a handy reference to some of the quirks of the monster names you'll find in this book!

Nordic Monsters (Pathfinder 1E) is off to layout!

We are pleased to announce that the first version of Nordic Monsters is heading down the pipeline to completion, as we've got the last monster ready for the Pathfinder First Edition version, the saunatonttu from Finland. This guy looks like he's taking a rest, which we just might do too! Artwork courtesy of Andrea Montano.

Saunatonttu are kindly fey who watch over the steaming saunas that are an essential part of life in some subarctic cultures. They usually appear as elderly humanoids of the same type as the builder of their sauna domain, though rarely they appear as beardless youths. Saunatonttu’s welcome those who respect the sanctity of the sauna and often share stories of long ago with those who remain for a sweat. Those who do not respect the quiet and contemplation or who try to rush the saunatonttu into conversation will quickly earn its ire.

• Nordic Monsters Layout: As the Pathfinder 1E version heads into the home stretch, the other books are coming along soon after. We should be ready to drop the D&D 5.5E version into the layout funnel next once the PF1 version is complete, with the Pathfinder Second Edition version following after that and then the Tales of the Valiant version to close out the project! Once layout is complete on each version, we'll be able to submit files to the printer and start getting rewards ordered and on their way to you! 
• Change Pledge Levels: A few folks have emailed about changing your pledge level (not just adding an item, but switching to a whole different base pledge). You should be able to do that in Backerkit, but it's possible I failed to click the right box in setting up the survey, so if you're someone who wants to move up to a new pledge, email me and I can do it manually!
• New Quickstarter for Tales of the Valiant! We enjoy doing stuff for different systems and wanted to make sure our Tales of the Valiant fans were feeling the love, so we did a focused project for that system called VALIANT MONSTER PLANET! It includes several brand-new ToV bestiaries--Mechanical Monsters, Hoard Monsters, and of course our new Nordic Monsters--plus big bundles like the 5E, PF1, and PF2 fans were able to get in this Kickstarter. As we have finished assembling ALL of the Legendary Planet adventures for ToV, we also offered that amazing adventure path! All of it will have fast fulfillment starting in July! If you're a Tales of the Valiant fan, we definitely hope you'll check it out!

Mechanical and Alien Downloads Fixed!

Hi all,

Thanks to those who pointed out we loaded the WRONG FILE for Mechanical Monsters (it was a Foundry development invoice instead of the actual PDF - whoops!) and/or that the Alien Bestiary files were missing! 

Those errors have both been corrected, so you can go in and download your corrected PDFs now! 

REMINDER: The core Nordic Monsters bestiary book itself is still in production, so you won't find any version in your downloads yet. We just figured there was no point making you wait for your other PDFs while we finish making the new books! 

Mechanical Monsters for Tales of the Valiant is also in production now and we'll let you know when it becomes available. 

First Wave of Downloads Sent!

Hi all,

The first batch of orders are locked and we've sent through a ton of downloads already for Nordic Monsters! 

1. VTT items have mostly been sent through DrivethruRPG while PDF and Token Pack downloads have been set up on Backerkit and can be downloaded there. 
2. The new Nordic Monsters bestiaries themselves are still in production so no downloads are available for those yet, but tons of terrific add-on items are available for you! 
3. For those who have submitted your surveys, we've set the addresses to lock in two days. Double check to make sure your address is correct if you're ordering print books so we can get your books to you when they are ready to go! 
4. We still have 153 surveys not completed and 14 cards that errored in Backerkit. Make sure your card info is correct so we can get everything finalized!

We are excited to continue our tradition of fast fulfillment on this project and we are doubly delighted by how cool Nordic Monsters is going to be once you have it ready to use in your campaigns! 

As a final note, we are also gearing up for a special campaign directed mostly at our Tales of the Valiant fans (though there will be add-ons for 5E/5.5E fans as well): Valiant Monster Planet!We're running this campaign in partnership with our friends ad Kobold Press, as we continue building out our Legendary Bestiary series by adding THREE new ToV creature collections ideal for folks playing in the Midgard campaign setting!

Orders are Locking on Backerkit!

Hi all,

We're at over the 70% reply threshold so we have hit the Big Red Button to start locking orders. There is a 48-hour window wherein you can make any last-minute changes before orders fully lock. Once they are locked, we'll charge the cards for those who have completed their surveys, and once that is done we'll be able to start sending out your PDFs! A few quick notes:

• If you haven't already, complete your survey! We still have over 200 folks who haven't finished their survey. Until you do that step, we won't be able to get your goodies to you! 
• Backerkit vs. DrivethruRPG: As noted in the Kickstarter, we'll be fulfilling our rewards through DrivethruRPG, so you'll receive links to get them through your downloads there. You'll also be able to download things directly from Backerkit once your order is locked. We'll send out announcements when things are ready. When you go to Drivethru, make sure you are logged in; the system update they did last year automatically times you out after a certain interval, so we've often had folks think they were still logged in but couldn't find their downloads because they actually weren't. 
• Nordic Monsters still in production! None of the versions of Nordic Monsters itself are complete yet, but they are getting close! You'll be able to download products that already are complete in advance, and we'll add Nordic Monsters downloads once they are available. Print fulfillment will send all items together when all are complete. 
• Selecting game systems for bundles: Backerkit is rolling out a new feature where if you've got a bundle of multiple books available for multiple systems, you can click just once and get all of the items for that system instead of having to click each one separately. Unfortunately, we missed the window to include that option in surveys for this campaign. We'll definitely be including that in future multi-system campaigns to make things easier!
